Hello everyone. I just bought a 92xr2 in good shape. Did a paint job and new top and now want to do some mods for more power. I've been reading these pages for days now and kind of have an idea of what to do. I'm old school and ran Mopar 440 6pak Road Runner back when, and turned 10.8s in the 1/4. But now i'm 61, the kids are all grown up and have families to raise of their own. This little car cought my eye because i always like to be different. Everyone has a honda(nothing wrong with them either), but i like this thing. I would like to get 200 whp out of it if possible. After reading some posts, it seems possible to get 175 with the ecu chip, boost controler, bigger inter cooler, intake and 2 1/2 exhaust. Is it possible to get 200 without engine swap? I'm not going to drag race this car on the track, but would like to play now and then. I would also like to keep the ac, i live in NC where it gets 95 in the summer with 80% humidity. If 175 whp is all i can get, then thats ok too. I'll still have fun. Any help from the regulars here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, great forum here. Glad i found it.

You could get 250+ keeping the stock motor, it can handle it, its all about the turbo, intercooler, exhaust, ecu, etc.

200 WHP will need a hybrid turbo, but I've had customers dyno 190whp on a stock VJ14 and supporting mods.

You can keep the AC but you'll need to get creative with the piping, the standard setups most of us run need the space available by deleting it.

Thanks Rocketman. I think i can live with 190whp. These turbo 4 bangers are all new to me but this is a great forum to learn. I think i will do all the standard mods you guys listed first and then get a hybrid turbo later. I'll be calling for the chip and controller soon. Thanks again.

Rocketman, I started changing the clutch in my car because it was slipping after putting on 2 1/2" exhaust and air cleaner mod. Man, what a job! Couple of questions. Is it ok to leave off all of the plastic covers under the bottom or does it affect any cooling or airflow for engine?
I prefer to leave it off if possible but i don't want to hurt cooling or something. Second thing is, i want to change the CHIP and MBC while the car is down with the clutch change. I read somewhere on here the ecu is between the gear shifter and radio. How do you get to it? I don't want to ruin any of my interior trying to get to it. One more, is your MBC a two stage, and do you still offer it with the box for the firewall? I want to send in my ECU right away.

Glenn-

I've run forever without the lower engine bay covers, I've never had airflow issues.

The ECU is located under the center of the dash, behind the kickpanels. Pop both kickpanels off. There are 3x 10mm bolts, 2x on the pass side, and 1x on the driverside, that retain the ECU. Bend the bracket on the driverside out toward the gas pedal, undo the three plugs on the pass. side, and the ECU should slide out toward the passenger side. Send me an email to rocketman@werabtfik.com I'll give you contact & payment info.

You'll have to contact Cory at Tunerfixx for the MBC's, I do not sell them. www.tunerfixx.com

I want to lower my car and help launch the car from a stand still. Are the B&G springs ok or are they mainly for road handeling? I want handeling to be good also, but i need the launch too, so if there is something better i would like to know before ordering. Learned one lesson from the clutch already and don't want to make the same mistake. lol. Thanks

hey welcome to ya tarheel!! I am turnin' 52 on the 22nd. Welcome to the forum. I also mainly worked and built on older muscle cars. Then i met this 92 XR2, of course all else went to hell. So far i've sold off everything including 3 wives and a few boats, just to make this car into a thing of beauty!!!! Just kidding 'bout all the wives. I tried my best to keep the AC, my friend, alas, it had to go. Check out my pics on the forum, just recently installed a upgraded turbo and ran a FMIC, with 2 1/2 piping. AC had to go. Cory set me up with a 2 stage BCerlong ago, ran 2 1/2" exhaust with no cat, loud as hell BOV. Point is... be prepared to put some money in it, but it is surprising how much fun this car is, and how little most people know about them. I'm running H&R sport lowering springs with new struts and mounts. I don't believe you have to run anything different for upgraded springs. Most of them only lower the car about 2 inches or less anyway. Big improvement in handling though. Launching the car is hard as hell, I know. Find the thread rocket put in about the limited slip diff.

Hey thanks Kelly. Yea, i love this little beast. Selling my Harley to finance all this stuff and  learning as i go. Plan to run Rocketmans chip, MBC and the other mods. Already got a high flow 2 1/2" cat and exhaust to the rear. Just got in the K&N air cleaner and an ACT clutch. Me and a friend are putting in the clutch. What a +*^%#g job. We dropped the trans out the bottom after disassembling the whole front of the car. lol. Never again! I was swearing at the Ausies the whole time. lol. Not back together yet because he had to go out of town. But it won't be long. Yea, i know what you mean about the fmic. Everyone says it makes a big difference but it's so stinking hot in NC in the summer. Feels like a hot shower all the time. But knowing myself the way i do things, i'll probably loose it too. Been reading posts about struts and coil overs and lowering springs and thats all new also. But i'll get things down in awhile. Thanks again and i'll post some pix of my new ride in awhile if i can fiqure that out too. lol. Just got a new top and paint job. I'll have ten grand in this buzz bomb before long if i keep going. lol.
