93 N/A ENGINE TROUBLE!!! I WASHED IT!! HELP!!!
« on: June 04, 2009, 06:51:00 PM »

Ok, I'll start this post off by agreeing with you all that I'm an idiot.. I washed my motor.. DOUGH!! Now, here is the trouble, and what I have done thus far: The engine runs really bad.. Not smoking, but spitting & sputting.. No check engine light either.. I already got the water out of the spark plug wells with a vaccumme cleaner, and also removed the distributor cap and dried it off.. It wouldn't run at all until my wife pushed it with her saturn, and i left in gear, with the key on hoping it would run.. And it did.. And graduly it has gotton better. It will run & drive on its own now. But barely.. I am thinking VAFM or TPS.. It seems to have a "sweet spot" on the throttle.. At some point (barely depressed), it runs perfect. In all gears.. But you push past that point, and putt, putt.. She is not running well at all.. Any advice? (Besides don't wash your engine) I have it sold tomorrow, and have an XR2 waiting for me on MO... Please help!!

Its still your plugs...get the engine to run warm for a while and then take the plug wires off hot let the water evaporate. Cap & rotor too put them someplace to dry overnight. Made that mistake once too. Vacuum wont clear much water at all has to be bone dry.

Hey Randy! If you have an air compressor then use it to blow out the cap and the plug wells, also hit the wire section of the air meter. Those are always the areas you bag up before a motor cleaning.  Good Luck  Gus

Well for now I let the motor get warmed up, removed the plug wires, cap & rotor bug, pulled off the AFM wire connector, the TPS connector, and a few others.. I'm going to let them sit overnigt.. What I don't understand is why the CEL isn't on.. I would think if it was the TPS or AFM it would set a code correct? IDK.. I'll look at it some more tomorrow. I may have to cancel her appointment to buy it until I get it worked out. I have a beautiful XR2 waiting for me in MO.. Here's a pic.. $1400 too..  :(

Thank you!! I left everything unhooked, and this morning, put it all together, and she runs absolutely perfect. Thanks again.
