Is this right?
« on: May 12, 2011, 09:48:00 AM »

So, the previous owner installed this boost controller. Adjusting it seems to make no difference, so I was just wondering if it is hooked up right. I know the pics are hard to tell, but any help would be great.

Thanks

First hose...

This hose goes from the controller to down by the turbo...

Is it overboosting, or underboosting?

If it's overboosting regardless of adjustment the valve is reversed, if it's underboosting, the valve is set too low and it's always opening.

Well, I am getting right around 6 or 7 psi right now and I just wanted to get it up to about 9. I turned the valve almost all the way up and still only get right at 7 psi. I don't have a chip, so I don't want to go very high, but want to try to get as much as I can and still be safe.

The hose is right. The positive boost should go down toward the turbo & the negative should go into your pipe that needs pushed up farther on the nipple & tightened.

Thanks Colorado. I tried pushing that hose on further and it won't go. Gonna replace it when I get a chance.

You shouldn't have to turn it much for an effect. One half turn on mine will give me 2-3 lbs easy.

Well, then mine isn't working. I'll replace that hose and see what happens. If that doesn't do it, I will just get a new one. Thanks for the replies.

By the way TonLaw, Matt told me to get an in line controller that DOESN'T T-off so I bought a Perrin on eBay. It was kinda pricey but if you look it up that will give you the idea.
Good luck, Rob

You did free up your exhaust right?  I can't imagine it wanting to go too high with factory exhaust.

Yep, have 2 1/2" exhaust from down pipe back. No cat. Radiator just blew up on me today, so now she sits until some money comes around.

Those Cheap no name EBAY boost controllers are not worth the time of day. The Perrin one is good. Turbo XS not bad. If you don't have an aftermarket boost gauge yet look into the AEM TruBoost. It is the Digital Boost gauge & Electronic Boost controller all in one for about $250. Well worth the price & you can't buy them separately for cheaper new.
