anyone here have a turbo other then the hybrid one. i found this guy running an EVO III turbo. i had one on my eclipse and loved it. i think it would make a ton of power for our car. it can boost 14-18 PSI all day long!

I'd like to know more as well.
-
i tried to check out the website of who made his manifold but did not see one there.
just the photos can at least give an exhaust shop an idea to make one. there are so many of the 16G turbos out there the support is endless for them
-
Yeah thats Ian, he parted the car out about a year ago. Said he needed the money.
After he installed the big turbo he was running a custom Rocketchip...he said it ran awesome, AFR's were good
-
anyone here a welder?
-
I believe he had those bits made by Neukin. They dont do stuff for the B6T anymore.
-
I can weld quite well, ASME certified. what did you need done?
-
check out the link in first post, he has a manifold that can fit a 16G turbo on it.
would love something that would do the same thing.
-
Order a JGS tools log manifold, you can order whatever turbo flange you want. I'm pretty sure they have most mitsu turbo flanges available
-
i found the website
so it is basically a build your own manifold?
-
pretty much, you can order them in different stages of completion but you'll still need a little welding done either way you go about it
-
so the flange at the exhaust manifold for a 1.6 non turbo and turbo are the same where it bolts to the eng?
-
yes all 1.6 dohc flanges are the same. (with the exception of the B6 in the 94+ MX3, that had a revised head)
So even a cheap OBX miata 1.6 manifold would work, they make them for the 16g, just cut & re-weld the turbo flange
-
thats what i was thinking, use one from a miata set up, i guess if i ent with a slimline fan set up and removed the AC crap and put the fan on the front side of the radiator that there would be enough room to put a 16G in there

so that one would work?
-
it'll work, im not entirely sure about the flange though. Keep in mind Miata's are topmount. the collector and flange will have to be cut and re-welded to the other side for a bottom mount turbo like our stock system
-
why do that? the clearance would still be the same right? if you put a different turbo on it you would already have to redo the exhaust and cooling lines?
-
if you keep it as-is, the turbo would be justting through the hood. Miatas dont have a lot of room between the block and the framerail (rwd engine, not transverse) so the turbo mounts to the top of the manifold. You would have major clearance issues, most likely with the hood but also the radiator
Look where its mounted: (http://www.moesrealm.com/img/thill/thill_02.jpg)
-
ahh i did not know they were mounted different, first time i seen under a hood of one lol..
so back to the drawing board
-
it would work but remember when turboing a miata you have to have a manifold with the flange on top.. turbo must go up, not down, so most miata manis will be flanged on top (you hit the steering linkage if you "hang" a turbo)
-
I will be running a 16g in a month or so. But im using a evo8 16g which is twin scroll so i'll have a some what complex manifold. Im getting mine made buy LoveFab. If you were anywhere near Michigan I would highly recomend them, they do AMAZING work. I could just have them use my car for a mock up and make you one too (http://graemlins/big-smile.gif)
