Hey everyone,
As the time to get the beast into the shop comes near I am contemplating the possible causes for my catastrophic oil seal failure. Essentially every oil seal in the car let loose all at once at high rpm/speed. I think that this might be related to switching to Mobil 1 so I was wondering what oil you all are running/recommend? Or any insights as to why my oil seals went pop.
-
Hey XR2! I think it was stated earlier as to what caused your problem. It's not the oil viscosity but you may have had a problem with your breather or smog valve plugging up and you pressurised the crankcase and then blu your seals. I run 15/40 and 20/50. Gus.

is mobil 1 synthetic??
-
Yeah, I think I was the one who said that? Any ways, that's why I have a catch can now. I just thought that I should cover all possibilities. And I was more wondering synthetic versus dino and high detergent versus low detergent.
EDIT: yes M1 is synthetic
-
Hey XR2! I don't know about mobil one specific but many of your "synthetics" are not but are ultra refined dinos. And yes I had the reich ECU in place at the time of my incident. Please note I will always recomend Rocketman's ECU from now on. REICH is a Jackass and cannot be trusted to provide what one pays for. There have been enough complaints on that and him not making good. Gus.
-
For sure, Rocketman completely PWNS Reich.
-
Hey XR2! what is mean't by PWNS? Gus.
-
PWNS = pounds = really good like we pounded the competition or we PWND the competition :)
-
Hey Josh! Haven't heard much from you lately. Can't be pounds. Wrong letters. How's your baby doing? Gus.
-
umm, PWN is a bastardization of "OWN". P is right next to O on the keyboard.
Its pronounced "OWN" or "PAWN"
heres the wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pwn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pwn)
lol. pwnt.
-
I didn't realize my use of internet slang would cause a conversation of enytomology, lol.
-
Hey XR2! Again you're wrong, it's etymology. Gus.
-
lol, maybe I should just stop posting for a few days, it seems like I'm on a roll. A backwards roll. I get some sort of a break for getting close while being high, don't I?
SHE'S GOING TO THE SHOP IN LESS THAN 16 HOURS!!!!1
-
Hey XR2! I was lol myself, please don't take it serious. Life is too short, And were both here together. Gus.
-
I didn't, that's why I started w/ lol. I understand that jokes and sarcasm are hard to display on the internet.
-
i once used synthertic oil in my capri and i had smoke blowing everywhere and as soon as i changed my oil to the recommended one the problem was gone
-
What oil is reccommended, I ahve no owners manual?
-
I run full synthetic Mobil 1, but I have no facts that it's "better" for your engine. I do know, once you run synthetic you have to stay with synthetic.
-
I run "full synthetic" mobil1 in my Capri.
If you talk to some oil guru's they'll recommend something else, being that Mobil1 is not 100% synthetic, and a few other reasons, but I dont have a problem with it.
-
It had always seemed to me that I had less lifter noise problems at start up with syn but, that could definitely be in my head or because I went to a heavier weight oil too.
-
Thanks guy, that's what I wanted to know, as long as someone else is using synthetic and not popping oil seals I can feel confident in using it once she's up and running again.
