Title: 1991 xr2 sohc 1.6 swap almost running, or good for parts!
Post by: dustinlib on February 13, 2014, 06:21:56 PM
Hey guys,

last fall i picked this up as a motor donor for my mx-3.  however rather than just steal it's heart and scrap it I thought i would install a spare sohc b6 i had sitting around and see if anybody wanted to use it as a gas sipping sunny day driver,  or at least a driveable car that somebody else could swap their own spare turbo motor back into.  Anyway I was hoping to get it back together before winter and then sell it for $1500 or so locally, but some things came up and i haven't worked on it in a while, so if there's any interest I'd let it go as is for $1k obo.

Oh I almost forgot, I have a sweet set of wheels for it too, they're on ebay, not sure if linking to the auction is frowned upon.

Wow, probably the only Capri in the US with a SOHC engine. Props for not trashing the body, looks like a good car.
Would be a gas sipper for sure. What transmission did you end up using?

Welcome to the forum, good luck with the sale!

it's still got the stock tranny, and to be honest i'd sell it with the turbo motor if someone really wanted it.  It seemed like a good donor at the time, but I'm not sure if my mx-3 is going to be an easy swap.

I think thats a great swap. And a fine asking price for a straight good running convertible.

Did the XR2 intermediate shaft bolt up to the block, or was the angle a tad off ?

**EDIT** It looks like the 'stock' x3 Tranny.  Ok.

Shouldn't be too difficult?

Escort GT passenger mount, maybe modded a bit
Escort GT transmissions + axles so they bolt into your hubs (have to mod the intermediate shaft)
XR2 flywheel + clutch (egt would work too)
Shift linkage should bolt up, if not be very close

Electrical bits, the XR2 harness isn't really that complicated. Run the stock MX3 Start/Charge harness so the fusebox stays the same

yeah, the wiring is what worries me, the capri harness is way different than the ones in my mazdas.

There's a B6T wiring guide on FordFestiva.com - I believe there's only 9 wires needed to run the engine. You'll probably have to register:

thanks for the link, that looks doable.  any idea which wires are needed to make the b6-me work in the capri?  i've got it to crank, but no fuel or spark.

Not a clue, I've never touched the B6. Maybe post on FordFestiva - there's a fair number of them swapped & running the single cammer B6's over there

any chance you know what all the other wires do in that big plug from the wiring for dummies thread?  I'm apparently dumber than average with wiring.  (https://scontent-1.2914.fna.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/t1.0-9/10365814_10101970149736060_8688147164286276227_n.jpg)

Sorry, the wheels just sold on ebay a few days ago.  How close are you?  AAA will tow you 200 miles if you're a gold member.

You are parting it out, is that right? How, many miles on it? Are you willing to ship anything?

I'd prefer to sell whole, but I can part it out if need be, shipping is no problem as long as the parts aren't too big.  mileage is something like 105k i think?

I have not sold, and I have not gotten it to run.  Although I haven't been to my dad's place to work on it recently either.  It should be a simple matter of matching the wiring harnesses together, but I can't seem to find the proper diagrams, and am really having a hard time getting them hooked up.

Again, pic it probably from FB, doesn't show up on my page.
and the craigslist url is your site to manage/edit, not for us.
