Tail light covers
« on: June 04, 2012, 12:45:00 PM »

I own a 91 XR2 and have seen photos of Capris with tail light covers that have round hole openings that reminds me of a back end of a Corvette. Where can they be purchased? Would appreciate any help. Thanks

It's not a cover, it was an australian package called the Ford Capri Clubsprint. 400 were made, they had a specially designed body.

SSV (sydney special vehicles) makes a reproduction kit that's fairly close to the original, but it's expensive and shipping is absurd. (look under Ford as they do not have Mercury brand over there)  http://ssv.com.au/

Russ made a prototype "half-sprint" kit, which instead of replacing the entire rear bumper (clubsprint is like this) it was a panel that just replaced the tailight portion, & used the 4" round corvette style lights. He has not put this into production yet, unfortunately

Btw, welcome to TeamCapri! Always good to see new folks from PA here too

Did go to the site for the taillights. You have to apparently buy the "bar" or rear bumper to. The prices: Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!! My luck I spend the money and do the work and first day out I'd get rear ended. Thanks Ken

Yeah, like I said on the Clubsprint the rear is one big piece, the bumper includes the tailight area.

If you're good with fiberglass, it's not hard to come up with a custom piece yourself
