Is there anyway to repair headlight control module? Mine is not working 1993 capri xr2
-
I've never heard of a repair of the module. 99.9% of headlight lift problems are due to headlight motors needing some work, or maybe a bad fuse. So why do you believe the module is bad?
-
I don't think it is now I got another one and no go. I wired up the motor to battery and it worked. The fuse is good and got power on my tester. I'm wondering if its a bad ground. Idk how to test the module but I got 2 now.

Have you made sure that your switch that flips up the lights is good? The one that you would use to flip them up in the winter time. Are your stuck in the Up position? If so my money is on that.
-
There were up when i got it i manually roll them down are u talking about the switch beside the e brake i aint tested it
-
That switch rarely goes bad....headlight switch, HCM or motors are the usual culprits.

He said the motor is good, Not sure how he is shooting for power. Your lights were in the up position, it would be something to look at. Yes the switch near the break. You need to shoot for power at the motor and work your way back on the circuit is your 100% the headlight motors work.
I seen the switch bad on one car...then on another persons car they had the switch engaged & never knew it..LOL
It can cause them to not go down.....

ok i will test that switch thanks
-
ok I used a paperclip on the connector of that switch when i put one end in the red/green strip and the other in the white/green strip the relay clicked so i guess its that switch. is there a way to bypass it
-
I'm sure there is, depending on just how "ghetto" of a solution is acceptable. Just wire it "open" or "closed" as the case would be? That'd be the ghetto solution.
-
which wires do what?
-
Switch is on Page 6

Should get you in the right direction, I cant remember if that switch is lit up at night. It looks like it by the diagram.
-
Yeah it lights up at night thanks

Back up folks... if the headlight switch does not raise the lights, and the console switch does not raise the lights, then its probably not a bad console switch.
The motors are good. When you disconnect the motors, you can apply power to the motor via the connector. The motor will cycle up and down forever if you put 12 volts into it. The problem is when the motor position detection circuitry gets gummed up, and the controller under the dash no longer gets good information on what position the motor is in. The controller does not supply 12 volts unless it thinks it needs to.
Pull the motor, remove the 4 or so tiny screws and pull the protective plate off. You will see a gummed up mess, or corroded mess. Clean the round copper plate til it shines. Clean the 3 'fingers' that ride on that plate. Add a little lubricant. Put it back together and it should be fixed.
Been there, done this. good luck...Chris

Ill try that thanks
-
that fixed it thanks! now to get my mirrors to work

GOOD POST Chris!

Worked for me!!! I did what Blue amber suggested, opened the motor gear assy, very cruddy in spite of rubber sealant. It had marking as coming from a recycler but seems to work great now!!! Once in while it "winks" goes thru several cycles up and down then stays properly Thanks
