Hello everyone, i have a '93 capri and i no when the engine is cold it will idle a little high, but when mine gets warm it still idles about 1500 rpms, would anyone know why it idles so high? Thanks
-
Idle control valve on passenger side. mine does same thing and too lazy to change it...LOL
-
Hey Gost! Not to be picky but idle "air" control valve. If you don't say completely, it comes back with a "what". We both know what you mean. Gus
-
theres a big flathead screw, on the throttle body
on top, its in a hole.. turn it in, to idle down and vice versa..
this is your idle screw,
it probably is your idle air controll... you need a new one..
its silver and sits on the left side of the intake, above the alternator...
ask russ (caprityper) he may have one for ya ...
... joe ....RCI...
-
NA and turbo are the same?
-
Thanks for the info guys, if i let it sit about 30 mins it idles down abit. ill look at the idle air valve i was wondering if it had on, now if i turn the big flathead screw and it sits for awhile it idles to slow. I thought at first it might be the coolant temp sensor for t he computer, but i dont really know for sure.
-
mine idles fine on start up..
at 1500 once car is warmed up.....sometime at 700 but rare once car is hot...
99% sure its the valve for mine. mine also drips coolant sometimes from it so it needs changed regardless..plan on rerouting the coolant line to the TB at the same time
-
thats exactly what mine is doing too. And ther is coolant runs threw the idle air control valve?
-
yep thats how it knows it at temp and works...
i think

I swapped the IAC from my NA to the XR2 and its the same part number. Yes, I had the same problem and now the NA idles high and the XR2 just fine.
-
well got it fixed the coolant lines going to the IAC were stopped up had to install new lines,i appreciate all the help from everyone. Next project is valve stem seals.
-
Well heres an update, i think the IAC has gone bad , now it wont idle up at all when its cold, and after it gets warm i have hold down the gas a little to get it started but it runs fine once its started and when its cold it idles at 800 instead of 1500, it had been idleing at 1500 then dropping down to 800, and the check engine light is on, any thoughts anyone? Would anyone happen to have a good one to sell?

pull the code and see what it is....that will tell ya for sure.
-
How do i pull the code?

there is a pic here from rocket...
short out plug he circled and turn key to the on position but do not start..
count the blinks...it will pause then blink again..thats the second number..then repeat until u turn off. code list is on there as well
-
ok ,thanks for the info, which pins do i short out on the green plug?
-
cant remember..i tried them all until it started to blink..LOL
-
Ok i checked the codes and here is what i got. it flashed 9 times fast, then it flashed 3 times slow then 4 times fast, so i think i have a 9 and a 34 is this right? If so the codes are 9 is ECT and a 34 is ISC Solenoid.

Not to derail this topic but I also have IAC issue causing my check engine light to be on. I have called all my sources and while they can give me a part number it is unavailible. Even my dealer guy told me it was discontinued item and pricey.
Does anyone have a source for them? I have a source for used capri at the local pull a part but I hate to waste time to get another unit that is also bad.
