Body close to Capri?
« on: July 28, 2011, 02:29:00 PM »

If we had to guess which model is close to Capri, what would you say?

I will be measuring 00-05 celica tomorrow.
Mitz Eclipse? Anyone had an idea and could give measurement could be nice.

I think there's was a question earlier about body kits mod.

I am in the process of customing bubble top(more like square) and it's pain in the butt.
I need like couple more layer of fiberglass.  I'm spending close to $100 or more already.
I'm thinking $200 I could just buy one made and modify it.

Good luck finding a bubble top for $200. New they are $400, used they have been selling for $350

I don't know of any car with a similar body, or anything even remotely close. The capri has very unique styling. Like I said earlier, you're on you own with finding something that can be modified to work.

I had looked at early 90's Toyotas, as they had a flat plane bumper like ours, but that's all they have in common

You'll never find a used Capote cover for under $200. Making one yourself is cool, however, you can't call it a "BubbleTop" - that name is copyrighted!!

Sorry for the misunderstand.
I was saying I am fabricating a cover, square cover costing a little over $100. It's a pain in the @ss for first time process.

As for the $200.  I was refering to body kit. I can get other model kit for $199 shipped but it's limited. No capri kit. That's why if other model are close to Capri, i will buy that and mod it, instead of fabricating one. Too much work.

Ahhhh, maybe I know what your talking about.....I will try and post a pic of a similar thing (I think) that we have on my Daughters car......
You're going to work just as hard to modify an existing non-Capri kit, as you would making one. NOTHING ELSE WILL FIT!!! I had the same Civic skirts that Jaime had, and I threw them out. cheaper/easier to buy a set of Razzy skirts....

So I quit faberglassing the custome top.  Didn't turn out the way i expected. Too much work to work with without a model.

As for Razzi Kit, you are talking bout $700 complete kit.  That's almost the price of the car. I want to be different from the rest for next year meet. I don't want to be #1 nor #2, I just want to be the only one of a kind. Maybe I could win the best cheapo mod catagory.
Example, Rocket's Tailgate shooter  :D .

I sure love to see what you had on your daughters if you could find it.

Also Gostlrs too, but couldn't find it.

Here's a gamble I took.  I bought body kit for Nissan 240SX for $200.

Got'em put on and look pretty nice I think other than the color mismatch.

Since it's a little to large, long from left to right, I had to put it up higher to cover the red stip.
Had to remove the foam and part of the factory bumper.  Easy mod.
Need to install grill/mesh so it will cover the inner bumper.

Working on the side skirt.  It's also too long, better than too short.
I have cut and trim but have not install it on yet.

That's definately interesting, it works pretty well. Any plans to cut it to make it sit a little lower (below the factory trim on the bumper?)

Lots of props to you for making it work!

Well, I would love to and that was my initial intention is to fit it on the bottom part of the trim. I would have to cut the front skirt and rebond/fiberglass it back together because if you look at the picture, there's a gap difference between the top and bottom trim. I just went ahead and mount it on top and modify the factory bumper instead.

Now for the back.  I will definately have to cut it to fit. Do i want to mount below the trim where is should be or above the trim to match the front.
