Title: Fuel tank sending unit
Post by: 1991MCapri on July 06, 2016, 06:20:30 PM
Hi,
My fuel gauge reads just over a 1/4 tank all the time. I have completed  the troubleshooting procedure in the manual. The manual says I need to replace the fuel gauge sending unit in the tank. My questions is are these fuel sending units still available?

...The sending unit "is not" inside the fuel tank..it is outside the fuel tank and the fuel pump attaches to it...remove your rear seat and remove the wires (one at a time and replace one at a time) and clean the contacts..it sounds like the ground wire is not making good contact causing your fuel gauge to not read correctly or not at all...download werbatfik.com/capri_service_manual.htm...you will find it very helpful for just about anything capri...hope this helps..

Well, it is in the gas tank. The port thru the back seat accesses the top of the gas tank.

AFAIK they're not available new. Russ might be able to get em?

I've seen someone rebuild their sender on the 323 gtx board of ClubProtege with success. He re-wound the wire resistive element.

Correct in the tank it is. I very well could have a working unit. I will let you know.
